The Beginning

Four years ago, our co-founder, Mario, was on the mountain when he instinctively reached down, letting his hands skim the snow. It felt natural—like an extension of his ride. That moment sparked an idea: what if hands could be part of skiing and snowboarding, adding control, style, and new possibilities?

He began experimenting with early prototypes, refining the design to reduce friction and unlock smoother turns and bigger tricks. As he shared DiscSkis with others, including snowboarders, the response was immediate—they loved it. Mario has been documenting the journey on Instagram, testing new designs and pushing the limits. The Team Behind DiscSkis

Bill and Liam, both product design engineers and passionate skiers from the UK, came across one of Mario’s videos and were instantly intrigued. They saw the potential in DiscSkis and reached out, eager to collaborate.

Friends since meeting at university while studying engineering, Bill and Liam have a proven track record of bringing product ideas to market. With Mario’s vision and on-snow experience, combined with their design expertise, the team came together to refine the concept and turn DiscSkis from an idea into a reality.

A lifelong skier and snowboarder, Mario discovered DiscSkiing by accident and turned it into something bigger, documenting his journey along the way.

  • Liam

A product design expert, Liam specializes in turning innovative ideas into real, high-performance products with a focus on function and durability.

  • Bill

A design engineer with a strong business background, Bill combines technical expertise with commercial insight to bring DiscSkis from concept to market.

Product Development

From the first concept to our latest design, DiscSkis have gone through 50+ iterations to refine performance, durability, and comfort. Using 3D printing, vacuum casting, and real-world testing, we’ve been able to fine-tune every detail—improving materials, shape, and ergonomics along the way. Here’s how DiscSkis have evolved:

  • The Original Concept

Our first design focused on the core idea: using the hands to interact with the snow. It was rough but proved that the concept worked. Early tests showed promise, but we needed to improve comfort and reduce drag.

  • The Midway Evolution

This version introduced better ergonomics and smoother edges, making it easier to carve and control movement. We also experimented with different materials to improve durability and reduce friction on the snow.

  • The Latest Design

After multiple refinements, our latest profile features a streamlined, high-strength design that enhances grip, control, and performance. This version is optimized for real-world use and is ready for injection moulding, the process we will use for production.
